Another Citizens Committee Meeting Cancelled

I think this is four in a row, cancelled. The MCPS Citizens Advisory Committee for Family Health and Human Development, which is evaluating the new sex-ed curriculum, hasn't met in two months.

There is a theory out there that the committee was just too ambitious, that the original plan didn't allow enough time for the school district to come up with materials. That theory says this is just how long it takes to develop a new curriculum; the school district's a big bureaucracy, things take time, they want to get it right.

Mmm, yeah, maybe.

And maybe the school district is dragging its heels for some reason.

Word from the district says, "School system personnel are continuing to consult with attorneys regarding the content of proposed curriculum revisions, instructional materials, and teacher resource materials and training components, as well as related timelines."

Listen, there's careful, and there's incapacitated. There's caution, and there's fear. There's deliberate, and there's petrified.

Let's get something going here, OK?

le sigh.

The curriculum now in use is older than my middle-school son. Is there a touch of embarrassment that the county cannot update a curriculum within the lifespans of the students taking it?

Andrea's right, of course. It's amazing since, according to TTF, there's a widespread public clamor demanding this new curriculum.

Oh, that's right. TTF means "TELL THE FALSEHOOD".
