As the World Turns

Sometimes there's just no need to add anything.

Here's Our President (who has only vetoed one bill in his Presidential career, to prevent stem-cell research) in the papers this week:
"People want to end the secretive process by which Washington insiders are able to get billions of dollars directed to projects — many of them pork-barrel projects that have never been reviewed or voted on by the Congress," he said. Bush wants balance budget by 2012

Yes ... they do want to end that -- the recent elections were an indication.

Here's Barney Frank talking to Keith Olbermann:
When the Republican administration of George Bush tells me not to use legislation to make political statements, it‘s kind of like being accused of being silly by the Three Stooges.

Ooch!

Barney the blowhard talks big now but when the President starts taking this to the public he'll whistle a different tune. The wasteful projects are especially obscene at a time when we need the funds for the war effort.

He's long overdue to have his resume updated. I think he's the only congressman in history to have a male prostitution ring run out of his townhouse.

But, then, one must keep an open mind about such things.

Well, I saw Rep. Frank on CSPAN appearing before the National Press Club (I think) and while I do not agree with him on much, this much we do agree on: publicly traded companies need to be put on notice that they will soon no longer be able to blow the wad on CEO's, while giving no consideration to the shareholders, or for that matter the employees of the company. The $210 MILLION dollar "golden parachute" for one man is as deeply immoral as anything I have seen in a long while.

I wish Rep. Frank good luck and god-speed in reigning in this excess.

I know this isn't nice - I frequently misspell things and I should not quibble - but I keep thinking when I read this that perhaps what Orin saw was Rep. Frank's coronation.

"god-speed in reigning in this excess."

Sorry - perhaps we can call it a giggle rather than a quibble.

It does appear that I used that word incorrectly...sigh. I was trying to use a $50 word when a $5 word would do...such as restrain, which also has the virtue of clarity in purpose as to what the word is suppose to convey by way of meaning.

Reminds me of a paper I wrote in college. I used the word "heretofore" which the professor circled in red and wrote off to the side, "this and other lawyerisms is language not fit for civilized people". I made sure that I edited out such show off words in future papers.

Fair enough Tish...but can I still wish Rep. Frank well in restraining the excesses of boardroom compensation for CEO's? BTW, though Frank and I would disagree on any number of issues, I believe he is a man of integrity, desiring to serve the common good.
