Remembering the Dead

November 20th is designated the Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Nobody is treated worse than those who dare to violate gender stereotypes. If you doubt it, go over to the Remembering Our Dead web site. Click on some links, there's just a sentence or two about each person. It's not much. Take a few seconds to think about what hate can do to real, living persons.

This is the end result of hatred and bigotry that starts with words and justifications of the "right" to discriminate and hate. Let those who preach hatred and fear remember their responsibility when others murder.

Then, you can read some stories about gays dying slowly of AIDS and see what the end result of a society that winks at promiscuity is. Let those who preach that sexual morality is outdated and unreasonable remember their responsibility for these deaths.

There will be a vigil this evening outside of the Whitman-Walker Clinic from 6 to 8 pm. I won't be able to be there because of a commitment at church, so I will lead a short remembrance ceremony at church, during a break in our meeting.

Gwyn Smith has been spearheading the Day of Remembrance for many years, and collecting mortality data that the FBI doesn't provide. Because of the way she has to research every death, her website includes more than simply raw data. Thisis the site for the transgender dead (known) in the past year.

Do we need to compromise our ethical values to advance? No, we don't:

"Two research groups have found different genetic recipes to give ordinary skin cells the power to turn into virtually any kind of human tissue, just as embryonic stem cells do.

If the recipes live up to their promise, they could someday end the ethical debate over embryonic stem cell research — and usher in an era when a person's own cells could be manipulated to mend a broken spinal cord, heal a damaged heart or regenerate other failing tissues."

"Anonymous" - your usual non-sequitor meant to divert attention from what Andrea and Jim posted. You just cannot let go of your hatred, can you? "Then, you can read some stories about gays dying slowly of AIDS and see what the end result of a society that winks at promiscuity is." Society, and that includes you, doesn't "wink at promiscuity"...it mourns the loss of millions of men and women and children (gay, strate, otherwise) who have been victimized by a VIRUS! Please read your Bible again and note the injunctions about being "holier than thou" and being without sin to cast the first stone.

Anon,

Your post equating promiscuity with homosexual orientation and transgender betrays either ignorance or bigotry. I hope it is the former.

"Your post equating promiscuity with homosexual orientation and transgender betrays either ignorance or bigotry."

Promiscuity, along with many either antisocial tendencies like sado-masochism and date rape, are very prevalent in the homosexual community.

Sorry, David, it just happens to be the truth.

I was responding to an outrageous allegation by Andreary that those who say the homosexuality is wrong are responsible anytime a transexual is murdered. Truthfully, though, more suffering and death is caused by our society's tolerance of immoral sexuality.

It is a tragedy, of course, when any innocent person is murdered. Unfortunately, however, it is all too common so one can't be too upset about any particular strangers.

What's really despicable is when people like your blog administrator Jim and TTF poster Rob the other day tried to exploit a tragic accident that occured to a member of the County Council for political purposes. Go back and read it and, remember, this was not a stranger but a person who they testified to, worked with and looked in the eye not just a statistic.

Did the news report about Praisner's 2 accidents 15 minutes apart mention anyone trying to run her off the road? Have they interviewed that Gabriel person who wrote:

"Are you one of those lesbian militants"

"soon we will lose our patience with imbeciles such as yourself and God help you then"

"it is the likes of you who will be on the losing end"

Anonymous, study after study since the 1950's has shown that gays are indistinguishable from straights in terms of mental health. Your bald assertion that antisocial tendencies are prevalent in the gay community is a lie. Gays are no more prone to such behavior than straights are.

People like you create an intolerant environment and use your bible to justify the denigration of gays and transexuals. You are partly responsible for the environment that leads some to think murdering transexuals is justified and socially condoned. You have blood on your hands.

Anonymous said "Truthfully, though, more suffering and death is caused by our society's tolerance of immoral sexuality.".

You wouldn't know truth if it bit you in the rear. Society does not tolerate immoral sexuality. The only sexuality that is immoral is that which hurts others. Gay sexuality hurts no one and is by definition moral. Its the oppression of gays from people like you that causes some to seek out anonymous sex to maintain their anonymity and avoid being identified as gay. It is people like you who are responsbible for virtually all suffering and death in the gay community.

By shear number, there is so much more promiscuity, antisocial tendencies like sado-masochism and date rape in the heterosexual community. "Date rape"? That seems to be an exclusive heterosexual behavior. Where do you live? Saturn??
It seems that your remarks here are becoming increasingly more bizarre and outrageous, as if you are playing a game of "can you top this?"
Paraphrasing a previous poster: "let him without sin cast the first stone". But, being a cafeteria "Christian" you can pick and choose whatever Biblical injunction fits your current butt itch with impunity.

Anonymous who said promiscuity, etc. is prevalent in the gay community is a troll. He doesn't believe much of what he posts, he just posts the most offensive stuff he can think of to try and antagonize LGBTs and our supporters.
