Channel Seven Steps In It Again

I told you the other day that Channel Seven was going to do a show on whether gay people can become straight. I thought it would be bad -- I didn't even come close -- it was unbelievably terrible.
The idea that a person can change their sexual preference is beginning to become a major debate with gay activists because of an upcoming book, "The Born Gay Hoax".

Author Ryan Sorba was speaking at Smith College about his upcoming book, "The Born Gay Hoax," when gay protesters began taking over shouting, "We're here, we're queer, get used to it!" Soon Sorba was overrun and drowned out. Police finally arrived and advised Sorba to leave for his own safety. An example, some say, of how militant gay activists hijacked public debate on homosexuality.

"A person may not be happy being gay! I mean, has anyone ever thought of that," David exclaimed.

David, 34, said he would be afraid of being harassed by gays, if he were to be identified. He said he wanted "out of the gay life" that contradicted his faith and left him feeling empty, so he underwent so-called "reparative therapy".

"I'm working on becoming more heterosexual," he said, "I believe that it is possible." "I believe feelings can change and I found feelings to change." Can Someone's Sexual Preference be Changed?

Man, this is sickening.

I told you about the Channel Seven interviewer asking me if I was gay. Yes, she's the reporter on the scene in this story, Greta Kreuz. She's the same one who reported on the hoax at Rio, when the Citizens for a Responsible Whatever had a man in a dress go into the ladies locker-room.

There is no controversy about whether someone's sexual preference can be changed. It can't.

Listen, go look at the video. Read the rest of this.

Here's what Box Turtle Bulletin says about it:
If this wasn’t truly pathetic journalism, it would be laughable. But on they go about “militant gay activists hijack[ing] public debate” and ex-gays fearful to give their name lest they be harassed.

The entire article is an embarrasment on the news department at ABC 7, and perhaps even a sad endictment of the quality of “news” that reaches the consumers of press-release based journalism. The station manager would do well to find whichever anti-gay staff member introduced this piece of foolishness into their newsroom and remind them that a reporters job is reporting, not advocacy for religous extremism. ABC 7 News Buys into Mass Resistance’s Hype

Her name is Greta Kreuz. I'm sorry to see it, I kind of liked her when I first met her.

They know more about this guy's stupid book at Box Turtle Bulletin than I do. Follow that link to find out more of the story behind the story here.

Apparently, there is. There's a book and television coverage and miltant gays demonstrating their lack of tolerance for free speech.

Greta Kreuz: “Now gay activists are applauding the fact that this symposium here today, was in fact cancelled. They say it was a ploy by the religious right. However, I talked to the organizer who is a gay psychiatrist, he says he’s been working on this panel for two years, he’s frustrated, he says it was balanced, and he, like many others in this issue, wish the people would stop shouting, and start talking.”

Truth Wins Out:
The symposium’s lead planner — Dr. David Scasta, former Association of Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists president — seemed stubbornly ignorant of the damage being done to legitimate science and to the victims of the ex-gay industry, as well as the unearned credibility being conferred upon would-be panelists who have misused religion as a political weapon to promote bigotry and emotional harm among unpopular demographics. Scasta was quoted by the Times (with erroneous credentials):

“It was a way to have a balanced discussion about religion and how it influences therapy,” said David Scasta, a former APA president and a gay psychiatrist in charge of assembling the panel. “We wanted to talk rationally, calmly and respectfully to each other, but the external forces made it into a divisive debate it never intended to be.”
--
To depict this as being a two sided issue, is EXACTY the strawman that the religious supremacists wish to peddle. Scasta is playing right into their hands by doing so.

And after 2 years of planning, if he actually thinks that these religious supremacists want anything less than TOTAL submission to their anti-gay will, then he is a complete idiot. You’d think he would have discovered Google within that time.
--
“but the external forces made it into a divisive debate it never intended to be.”

Dr. David Scasta clearly condones the notion that gay people should think that their humanity is up for debate.

Dr. David Scasta, despite the fact that he is gay, is in bed with the anti-gay supremacists for even suggesting such a notion.

Dr. David Scasta is an Auntie Tom.

Really is that what the M.L.K., Jr.-lead African-Americans did on their March on Washington too?

AnonFreak, you are truly a bigot. You think you are sly with your "I don't hate, blah blah blah remarks".

Well, we're not as stupid as your screen/blog name looks.

MAY 17TH IS INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA!! WEAR RAINBOW-COLORED OR RED RIBBONS TO STAND UP AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA, HATE AND BIGOTRY.

I know students/teachers/admin. at my school will be doing this (as well as thousands of schools around our country).

Brilliant! An international "Day of Silence."

Which brings up the question, will there be an organized political-protest against this next year? And if not, will it be because the people they have to pick on will be of their own size?

I will say I'm sorry that WJLA has embarrassed itself again. I've offered Greta the opportunity to just sit down and talk about fundamental issues, and she has never found the time. I guess we know why.

As for free speech, I'm all for it. I oppose shouting down any speaker, particularly at universities. If you're going to the trouble to invite someone, then treat him with respect.

That being said, I don't believe a panel on religion and homosexuality with people who believe in conversion belongs at the APA. Not because religion and human behavior aren't fertile ground for psychiatrists to explore, but because the right-wing will surely use even the existence of such an event for propaganda purposes. I think it's much more appropriate for a venue such as a college. But once you've gone and scheduled it, hold the conference and speak your piece. I don't see anything about which to be afraid.

There are people who value their religious beliefs above all else, including their sexuality and even their own personal integrity. People have been willing to die for those beliefs, people of all religions. Exploring those motivations sounds perfectly fine and interesting as well.

Dana, you don't favor it because the existence of such a conference would undermine your most precious propaganda point: that science has concluded that homosexuality is innate and immutable. It hasn't and if the APA holds such a conference, that would be clear to everyone.

"I've offered Greta the opportunity to just sit down and talk about fundamental issues, and she has never found the time. I guess we know why."

Maybe she's knows it's a waste of time because it's well-known that you take great umbrage to the idea that everyone doesn't accept your opinions and theories as fact. What's the point of knocking on the door of a mind that's closed.

Court: Georgia Tech “Safe Space” program not safe from Constitution
For second time, ADF attorneys win court-ordered changes to discriminatory Georgia Tech policies

ATLANTA — A federal judge has ruled another policy unconstitutional at Georgia Institute of Technology in a lawsuit Alliance Defense Fund attorneys filed on behalf of two students. The court already struck down a “speech code” policy at the university, but additionally ruled Wednesday that provisions of the school’s “Safe Space” program discriminate against religion and are therefore unconstitutional.

“A public university should not be openly disparaging the beliefs of students who hold to a biblical view of homosexual behavior while endorsing other views,” said ADF Senior Counsel Nate Kellum. “The university’s ‘Safe Space’ program had no business siding with certain religious beliefs while viciously attacking others. The program openly ridiculed the faith of many students while declaring that people in other religious groups have the ‘correct’ beliefs. The court was right to declare that portion of the program unconstitutional.”

ADF attorneys filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against university officials on behalf of students Orit Sklar and Ruth Malhotra in March 2006. A federal court then ruled on the first part of the case, ordering a repeal of Georgia Tech’s speech code, which punished students for speech that school officials deemed to be “intolerant.” The court denied a request by school officials that the case be dropped and prohibited the university from changing its new student speech policy without court approval for five years (www.telladf.org/news/story.aspx?cid=3826).

Wednesday’s ruling put an end to discriminatory provisions of Georgia Tech’s “Safe Space” training program, which officials used to support religious viewpoints that favor homosexual behavior while disparaging those that oppose it.

In its ruling, the court ordered the removal of the discriminatory religious information from the program’s training manual, finding that Georgia Tech officials “violated the Establishment Clause by favoring one religion over another in the state-associated Safe Space Program.”

Anti-gay code-speak-wise, if you are gay, and openly express in any way that you deserve equal protection under the law, then according to them, you are automatically a "homosexual activist."

With that in mind…

"Homosexual activists are talking about personal choice, freedom and so forth, but they deny personal choice and freedom for those who wish to seek change," said Peter Sprigg with the organization, Parents and Families of Ex-Gays.
---
So according to Peter Sprigg of PFOX, every single openly gay person on Earth, is denying every other openly gay person on Earth, the "personal choice and freedom," to return to the closet.

Spot on, ABC 7.

WJLA is free to do what it pleases. Their willful ignorance is their loss.

You continue to sexualize the issue of sexual orientation and gender identity, which points to your twisted mental state, not mine.

I've made it clear that I don't mind discussion. You've got nothing to say and no evidence to back it up. And if you did, I would welcome a hearty debate. You still have not provided the evidence of a single gay (or straight) person whom you've "converted." Keep talking about the thousands -- the days of Rovian big lies are ending.

many gays don't back special laws giving them preferential treatment

the gay guy at APA was willing to discuss the topic of therapy for gays but said “We wanted to talk rationally, calmly and respectfully to each other, but the external forces made it into a divisive debate it never intended to be.”

it's called the Ruckus Tactic if you'd like to look it up in your gay agenda handbook

Will you please stop this "Emslob" crap!!! You are despicable. Furthermore, you are contemptuous of other human beings who are gay. I RESENT your attempts and those of others of your bigoted thinking to tell me who I am. I determine that, not you. Whether I am gay by inherent reasons or whether I am gay by choice is NOT YOUR BUSINESS...I do nothing to belittle or dehumanize your existence on earth. "Do unto others..." is obviously not a guiding moral principal in your life. Actually it is a waste of my time, and the time of others, to talk to you...making a silk purse out of a sow's ear never works!

I agree, Improv. TTF has made it everyone's business, however, by teaching it in schools as a scientific fact and fighting against efforts to provide counseling for those who want it.

No one's imposing anything on you, it's the other way around.

I thought you were one of those posters who called other names but maybe I was wrong. I may have confused you with Drick. My apologies. If you don't use insulting epithets to refer to others, I won't do it to you.

It is a scientific fact, Wyatt, regardless of your opinion.

And if you had bothered to read, and I refer you back to Throckmorton, the panel discussion was not about "therapy for gays." Warren, unlike you, recognizes that is not possible. What he was interested in discussing was how to relate to gay persons who are trying to remain in their fundamentalist churches. I can understand why an individual would want to maintain his social network, so the question is, given the homophobic climate in the fundamentalist community, how can a gay person manage his life? Some people leave, some work from within to change the institution, others repress their identity and sexual expression.

Since psychiatrists are physicians, it is their legal and ethical obligation to work with everyone and to do no harm. So a physician would have to state that your sexual orientation is immutable and is not an illness of any sort, and then go on from there. I would bet that is what most do these days.

Wyatt, this is how it works. One is legally and ethically obligated to provide treatment based on data. You can claim what you want about immutability, but it is irrelevant because there is no data to show one can change. Not one's sexual orientation nor one's gender identity. To claim to a patient that it is possible would be considered malpractice.

So until you can produce valid, verifiable, replicable studies that prove otherwise, you're just spouting religious dogma which will get you nowhere around here.

Do your research.

Are they worried a 9 year old transsexual is going to rape their daughters in the little girls’ rooms?

Greta Kreuz is a "TV reporter". these days, TV news is largely made up of people who are actors or actresses pretending they know something about important information. Most television media is all crap- except for TMZ- they don't pretend to be anything but pure junk. Too bad our local news channels can't be equally honest.
