Voting: It Might Get Ugly

Something serious may be shaping up in the elections. A lot of people have been disqualified from voting, especially minorities and populations likely to vote Democratic. Early voters are already noticing the effects -- what's going to happen on November 4th, when the rest of us go to the polls and find that only certain cherry-picked people are allowed to vote?

In South Carolina:
The head of the local NAACP says he’s worried about Orangeburg County’s elections office, with his group receiving complaints about delayed and incorrect voter registration cards, as well as unprofessional employees who can’t answer questions correctly... NAACP, others express election concerns

There are lots of problems reported in this article. People are being told the wrong date to vote, the wrong place, blank absentee ballots were sent out.

In Indiana:
Early voting has hit a snag in Northwest Indiana. Charges of voting fraud mean early ballots won't be cast in Gary, Hammond and East Chicago for now.
...
Republican leadership got a temporary restraining order to keep early voting centers from opening in three cities. The party says the Board of Elections doesn't need the extra work right now with all the new voter registrations to verify.
...
The county's Democrat party chair argues not opening the centers in Gary, Hammond and East Chicago effectively strips thousands of their right to vote.

"We all know what that's about, to slow down or stop people from voting and disenfranchise people, especially the democratic votes," said Rudy Clay, Democratic Party Chairman, Lake County, Ind. Early Voting Hits A Snag In Northwest Indiana

The Republicans up there are blaming ACORN. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now conducted voter drives, and the GOP is asserting that fraudulent names were registered. They are using this to hold up validation of voters in many regions of the country.

A different kind of problem in West Virginia:
County clerks all over West Virginia have been told there is a problem with the optical scan ballot to be used in this fall's election, a Kanawha County official said Monday.

Early voting is scheduled to start in West Virginia on Wednesday.

The problem involves a programming error that causes some votes in the Supreme Court race to be tabulated incorrectly, according to County Commission President Kent Carper. State ballot problems alleged

You can expect more of that, as we use electronic voting machines with proprietary code, buggy software, and backdoors that allow hackers to change vote counts without being detected.

How about this, in Denver:
With only a week left before the start of early voting, about 6,000 people who registered to vote aren't eligible to cast regular ballots yet.

That's because they failed to check a required box on their registration forms. Those without a driver's license or state identification number are required to check a box and then provide their Social Security number.

Clerks are contacting these voters and asking them to complete the forms. The secretary of state's office says those who don't complete the forms before they vote will still be able to cast provisional ballots, which are counted later.

Election watchdogs say the checked box is just a technicality and want the state to add them to voter rolls or let them provide the check mark at the polls. Over 6,000 Voters Not Registered Due to Unchecked Box

What would you do if you went to vote and they wouldn't let you? A lot of people are going to find themselves in that situation this year.

So, if the Dems accuse Repubs of voter fraud, they are automatically presumed correct because they are so virtuous but if Repubs accuse Dems of voter fraud in ACORN activity areas, they are just committing more fraud.

Jim, ACORN is a socialist organization who believes the ends justify the means. Barack Obama used to train their vote registration workers as part of his radical past. btw, in addition to regular accusations of voter fraud, ACORN has also been involved in efforts to bully banks into making bad loans to underqualified lenders. But I guess that's never hurt anyone, right?

One other thing, the last thing McCain would need to do is commit voter fraud in SC. He's a lock there. Despite what you're hearing, WV and IN aren't worries either. CO is a toss-up that might be tempting but I doubt McCain's people tricked anyone into not signing a box.

So, it might get ugly but lots of things might happen. Joe Biden might suddenly announce he's having gender reassignment surgery and Obama might announce he's joining the Taliban. Never know, life is strange.

One ugly thing already happened though.

Your unfounded post.

The GW/Battleground tracking poll has Obama's lead increasing to 13%. Mccain was asked for comment but couldn't be heard over his crying.

Even the Reuters/Zogby poll bad anonymous was recommending has Obama's lead increasing by 50%. The average of polls has Obama's lead at 7.4%, far higher than the 5.3% it was when bad anonymous was assuring us Mccain was turning things around. Sucks to be you bad anonymous.

You can see how delusional bad anonymous is from his comment. He says WV and In aren't worries for Mccain where Mccain only leads by 2.2 and 3.8 but in CO where Obama leads by 5.2 he says its a "toss-up". Back here in the real world Obama has a lock on CO and a good shot at WV, if not IN.

Peya,

IBD/TIPP has a 2 point lead. GW has a 13 point lead. The others from today are either 5 or 6. Now, we've cautioned you about outliers before. Don't repeat your mistakes repeatedly. Obama's campaign will be over after tomorrow night's debate.

WV and IN are indeed locks for McCain. You have to know the people there to understand that, and you don't. CO is a toss-up because of the highly motivated voters in the SE sector of the state.

The election's not over yet.

The worst case scenario is now a distinct possibility: a Democrat in the White House, a Democratic Senate with a filibuster-proof majority, and a Democratic House with a bolstered majority.

If this scenario unfolds, Washington would become a solidly liberal town again for the first time in decades. And the prospects of passing the liberal agenda--nearly all of it--would be bright. Enacting major parts of it would be even brighter. You can forget about bipartisanship.

Start with "card check." It would permit organized labor to unionize the private sector without winning a certification election by secret ballot. It's easy to get workers to sign cards saying they want a union, but it's hard to get them to vote that way when labor organizers aren't hounding them. Card check is labor's last hope for more dues-paying union members.

Unions simply aren't popular and neither is card check. But it passed the House last year, only to be blocked in the Senate by a Republican filibuster. In 2009, with Washington controlled by Democrats, it would sail through Congress and President Obama would
sign it. After all, neither Obama nor congressional Democrats have bucked organized labor even once.

Then Democrats might go after a longstanding target of big labor, section 14(b) of the Taft-Hartley Act. It allows states to enact right-to-work laws, which bar workers from being forced to join a union. Twenty-two states have right-to-work laws.

The liberal scheme for killing conservative talk radio--the so-called fairness doctrine--would stand an excellent chance of becoming law. It would require radio stations to offer equal time, for free, to anyone seeking to reply to broadcasts featuring political opinion. To remain profitable, many stations would have to drop conservative talk shows, a major medium for communicating conservative ideas, rather than give up hours of free time. Obama has said he opposes the fairness doctrine. But would he veto it? Not likely.

Obama would nominate liberals to fill Supreme Court vacancies--no doubt about that--with the strong likelihood they'd be confirmed. As a senator, he voted against John Roberts and Sam Alito. And free trade agreements would become a thing of the past, given liberal and labor opposition.

What about Obama's health care plan? He's described it as step or two away from a single payer, government-run health system like Canada's. While expensive, its chances of passage would be quite good.

A bad economy, however, might keep Obama and his allies in Congress from passing his entire package of tax increases and his "cap and trade" proposal for curbing the emission of greenhouse gases. Obama has called for increasing the tax rate on capital gains, dividends, and the income of top earners, and raising the cap on payroll taxes. But tax hikes would worsen, not stimulate, a weak economy. So that might make Democrats balk--except they might not. For liberals, requiring the well-to-do to pay higher taxes is a matter of ideology.

So is cap and trade. It would drive up the cost of energy, another downer for the economy, but Democrats believe it's necessary to save the planet. Besides, the environmental lobby would demand cap and trade's enactment. And environmentalists have as tight a grip on Democrats as labor does. Obama has never crossed environmentalists.

As for foreign and national security policy, there'd be nothing stopping President Obama from doing what he wanted in a liberal-dominated Washington, including a quick troop exit from Iraq and presidential-level talks with anti-American dictators. Congress would go along. The media would cheer.

But who knows? Maybe McCain and Republicans will rally their forces and keep the worst from happening. The campaign has changed direction twice in less than two months, first when McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate, then when the financial panic hit. There could be a third game changer.

If not, we face the liberal deluge.

McCain needs to explain this to the American people.

Does anyone care to report why ACORN is being investigated? Did anyone notice that it was ACORN itself who informed state officials about some questionable registrations collected by its employees that are now under investigation. Acorn said it had terminated the workers involved.

Crying "voter fraud" is Standard Operating Procedure" for the GOP. It was the favored tool of the Rovian wing of the Bush White House to reshuffle the DOJ into an unofficial wing of the GOP. Remember the excuses given for sacking all those qualified US Attorneys around the country? Yeah, they didn't pursue enough voter fraud cases.

Since when has there EVER been a problem with too many voters showing up at polls?

"Since when has there EVER been a problem with too many voters showing up at polls?"

How about when they've already voted once under their real name?

Wall Street Journal today provides the antidote to Jim's post and CBTS's nonsensical ranting:

"At the recent Emmy Awards, historian Laura Linney averred that America's Founders had been "community organizers" -- like Barack Obama. Too bad they aren't like that any more. Mr. Obama's kind of organizers work at Acorn, the militant advocacy group that is turning up in reports about voter fraud across the country.

Acorn -- the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now -- has been around since 1970 and boasts 350,000 members. We've written about them for years, but Acorn is now getting more attention as John McCain's campaign makes an issue of the fraud reports and Acorn's ties to Mr. Obama. It's about time someone exposed this shady outfit that uses government dollars to lobby for larger government.

Acorn uses various affiliated groups to agitate for "a living wage," for "affordable housing," for "tax justice" and union and environmental goals, as well as against school choice and welfare reform. It was a major contributor to the subprime meltdown by pushing lenders to make home loans on easy terms, conducting "strikes" against banks so they'd lower credit standards.

But the organization's real genius is getting American taxpayers to foot the bill. According to a 2006 report from the Employment Policies Institute (EPI), Acorn has been on the federal take since 1977. For instance, Acorn's American Institute for Social Justice claimed $240,000 in tax money between fiscal years 2002 and 2003. Its American Environmental Justice Project received 100% of its revenue from government grants in the same years. EPI estimates the Acorn Housing Corporation alone received some $16 million in federal dollars from 1997-2007. Only recently, Democrats tried and failed to stuff an "affordable housing" provision into the $700 billion bank rescue package that would have let politicians give even more to Acorn.

All this money gives Acorn the ability to pursue its other great hobby: electing liberals. Acorn is spending $16 million this year to register new Democrats and is already boasting it has put 1.3 million new voters on the rolls. The big question is how many of these registrations are real.

The Michigan Secretary of State told the press in September that Acorn had submitted "a sizeable number of duplicate and fraudulent applications." Earlier this month, Nevada's Democratic Secretary of State Ross Miller requested a raid on Acorn's offices, following complaints of false names and fictional addresses (including the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys). Nevada's Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said he saw rampant fraud in 2,000 to 3,000 applications Acorn submitted weekly.

Officials in Ohio are investigating voter fraud connected with Acorn, and Florida's Seminole County is withholding Acorn registrations that appear fraudulent. New Mexico, North Carolina and Missouri are looking into hundreds of dubious Acorn registrations. Wisconsin is investigating Acorn employees for, according to an election official, "making people up or registering people that were still in prison."

Then there's Lake County, Indiana, which has already found more than 2,100 bogus applications among the 5,000 Acorn dumped right before the deadline. "All the signatures looked exactly the same," said Ruthann Hoagland, of the county election board. Bridgeport, Connecticut estimates about 20% of Acorn's registrations were faulty. As of July, the city of Houston had rejected or put on hold about 40% of the 27,000 registration cards submitted by Acorn.

That's just this year. In 2004, four Acorn employees were indicted in Ohio for submitting false voter registrations. In 2005, two Colorado Acorn workers were found to have submitted false registrations. Four Acorn Missouri employees were indicted in 2006; five were found guilty in Washington state in 2007 for filling out registration forms with names from a phone book.

Which brings us to Mr. Obama, who got his start as a Chicago "community organizer" at Acorn's side. In 1992 he led voter registration efforts as the director of Project Vote, which included Acorn. This past November, he lauded Acorn's leaders for being "smack dab in the middle" of that effort. Mr. Obama also served as a lawyer for Acorn in 1995, in a case against Illinois to increase access to the polls.

During his tenure on the board of Chicago's Woods Fund, that body funneled more than $200,000 to Acorn. More recently, the Obama campaign paid $832,000 to an Acorn affiliate. The campaign initially told the Federal Election Commission this money was for "staging, sound, lighting." It later admitted the cash was to get out the vote.

The Obama campaign is now distancing itself from Acorn, claiming Mr. Obama never organized with it and has nothing to do with illegal voter registration. Yet it's disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud and then claim you're shocked to discover reports of fraud. As with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers, Mr. Obama was happy to associate with Acorn when it suited his purposes. But now that he's on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties.

The Justice Department needs to treat these fraud reports as something larger than a few local violators. The question is whether Acorn is systematically subverting U.S. election law -- on the taxpayer's dime."

Anything over 2% is almost certainly an Obama win and anything over 4% is a landslide for Obama. The 13% lead in the GW/Battleground tracking poll confirms a series of polls showing Obama with a double digit lead.

From Dispatches from the Culture Wars:

I'm going to cut and paste a factsheet that ACORN has put out about the allegations of voter fraud. Let me say up front that every statement made here was confirmed by my investigation of the group for the article I wrote at the Michigan Messenger, not just by ACORN but by independent and non-partisan voter rights experts.

Key Facts:
1. In order to help 1.3 million people register to vote, we hired more than 13,000 registration assistance workers. As with any business or agency that operates at this scale, there are always some people who want to get paid without really doing the job, or who aim to defraud their employer. Any large department store will have some workers who shoplift.

2. Any large voter registration operation will have a small percentage of workers who turn in bogus registration forms. Their goal clearly is not to cast a fraudulent vote. It is simply to defraud their employer, ACORN, by getting a paycheck without earning it. ACORN is the victim of this fraud - not the perpetrator.

3. In nearly every case that has been reported, it was ACORN that discovered the bad forms, and called them to the attention of election authorities, putting the forms in a package that identified them in writing as suspicious, encouraging election officials to investigate, and offering to help with prosecutions. We are required by law to turn in all forms, but instead of just turning them in and figuring that it is the responsibility of the board of elections to figure out which are valid, we spend millions of dollars verifying that forms are valid, and then separate out those that are suspicious.

4. This has nothing to do with "voter fraud" - nothing at all to do with anyone trying to cast an extra vote. There has never been a single reported instance in which bogus registration forms have led to anyone voting improperly. To do that, they would have to show up at the polls, prove their identity as all first-time registrants must, and risk jail. The people who turned in these forms did so not because they wanted an extra vote, but because they didn't care enough to make sure eligible people got to vote at all.

5. When a department store calls the police to report a shoplifting employee, no one says the department store is guilty of consumer fraud. But for some reason, when ACORN turns voter registration workers over to the authorities for filling out bogus forms, it gets accused of "voter fraud." This is a classic case of blaming the victim; indeed, these charges are outrageous, libelous, and often politically motivated.

6. Similar attacks were launched against ACORN and other voter registration organizations in 2004 and 2006. The bogus charges were at the heart of the U.S. Attorney-gate scandal that led to the resignations of Karl Rove, Attorney General Ablerto Gonzales and other top Justice Department Officials. It turned out that it was the charges that were fraudulent, and that they were part of a systematic partisan agenda of voter suppression. Republican US Attorneys David Iglesias (NM), Todd Graves (MO), and John McKay (WA) all were fired primarily because they refused to prosecute similar bogus charges of "voter fraud." Another US Attorney, Bradley Schlozman, who did politicize prosecutions against former ACORN canvassers, was forced to acknowledge under cross examination by the Senate Judiciary Committee that ACORN was the victim of fraud by its employees and ACORN had caught the employees and had identified them to law enforcement.

7. The goals of the people orchestrating these attacks are to distract ACORN from helping people vote and to justify massive voter suppression. That's the real voter fraud; the noise about a small fraction of the forms ACORN has turned in is meant to get the press and public take their eyes off the real threat, while those hurling the charges are stealing people's right to vote in broad daylight. They have already tried to prevent Ohio from registering voters at its early voting sites. In Michigan, they planned to use foreclosure notices to challenge thousands of voters. And if this year is like past years, they are preparing to use this so-called voter fraud to justify massive challenges to voters in minority precincts on Election Day.

The Details:

Fact: ACORN has implemented the most sophisticated quality-control system in the voter engagement field but in almost every state we are required to turn in ALL completed applications, even the ones we know to be problematic.

Fact: ACORN flags in writing incomplete, problem, or suspicious cards when we turn them in,. Unfortunately, some of these same officials then come back weeks or months later and accuse us of deliberately turning in phony cards. In many cases, we can actually prove that these are the same cards we called to their attention.

Fact: Our canvassers are paid by the hour, not by the card . ACORN has a zero-tolerance policy for deliberately falsifying registrations, and in the cases where our internal quality controls have identified this happening we have fired the workers involved and turned them in to election officials and law-enforcement.

Fact: No criminal charges related to voter registration have ever been brought against ACORN or partner organizations. Convictions against individual former ACORN workers have been accomplished with our full cooperation, using the evidence obtained through our quality control and verification processes -- evidence which in most cases WE called to the attention of authorities

Fact: Most election officials have recognized ACORN's good work and praised our quality control systems. Even in the cities where election officials have complained about ACORN, the applications in question represent less than 1% of the thousands and thousands of registrations ACORN has collected.

Fact: Our accusers not only fail to provide any evidence, they fail to suggest a motive: there is virtually no chance anyone would be able to vote fraudulently, so there is no reason to deliberately submit phony registrations. ACORN is committed to ensuring that the greatest possible numbers of people are registered.

There are four really important facts here. First, that in the very few instances where actual fraud takes place (as opposed to duplicate voter registration applications or applications with portions that are illegible or have mistakes in them), ACORN is the victim of that fraud, not the perpetrator.

Second, that in almost every case where canvassers have turned in fraudulent applications, they were caught because ACORN turned in both the fraudulent card and the identity of the canvasser, and they do so separate from all the applications that they have no reason to believe are bad.

Third, that none of this has anything to do with anyone actually voting twice or anyone being registered to vote that is not a legal voter. When fraud does take place, it's because a canvasser decides to take a short cut rather than do their job and register voters. ACORN fires people for that and turns them in.

Fourth -- and this is very important -- the law requires ACORN to turn in every single registration card that they take, even if it's fraudulent. They cannot, by law, discard ANY voter registration application, they must turn them in to election officials. And bear in mind that they have little means of knowing if someone is turning in a duplicate application because they don't have access to the state's central voter file. If someone who is already registered fills out a card, either because they figure maybe their registration has lapsed and it won't hurt to make sure they're registered or because they feel sorry for a canvasser, by law those cards must be turned in to the county election officials.

We know beyond any doubt that the GOP has an active strategy of trumping up these voter fraud charges against ACORN. How do we know that? Look at the DOJ Inspector General's report on the US Attorneys scandal, especially the section about New Mexico's David Iglesias. Republican political operatives, including Karl Rove himself, put pressure on Iglesias to bring voter fraud charges against ACORN based on a single canvasser who turned in some fraudulent applications in that state.

When he refused to do so because there was no evidence, he was put on the list of attorneys to be fired. The report contains emails and memos from Rove and from Republican activists throwing a fit over the fact that Iglesias - a man who ran for office as a Republican, so he hardly has any reason to be biased in favor of ACORN - would not do their bidding and bring a fraud case against them.

Iglesias had nothing but excellent reviews of his work by his superiors at the DOJ and the excuses that they offered for why they wanted him fired were found by the Inspector General to be dishonest justifications invented later. The evidence reveals that he was targeted because he would not bring a corruption charge against a Democratic official before the 2004 election in order to undermine the Democrats during the campaign (and by the way, charges were eventually brought and the official was acquitted).

This is politics, plain and simple. The GOP cannot come up with a single documented example of someone voting twice or voting fraudulently, but they continually raise the specter of voter fraud in order to cover up their longstanding voter suppression efforts. And those efforts, unlike the allegations of voter fraud, have been documented and proven in court many times. Multiple courts have found the RNC and various Republican state committees guilty of illegal voter suppression and issued injunctions against their voter caging programs. And that is the sole purpose of these voter fraud allegations, to distract attention away from all of that.

In 2008, the right choice for America is John McCain.

That's something I decided early this year, over the objection of some of my conservative colleagues. There are a number of reasons, but the quickest summation would be "leadership." When I saw both Fred Thompson and John McCain in South Carolina, I knew who had to be the Republican nominee. This is a McCain year, for many reasons.

For many people, the election is about to be "about" the economy. We all know, though, were it not for the current major crisis, that would not have been the case. It would be about foreign policy. In point of fact, if it must be "about" something, then it ought to be foreign policy. On foreign policy and the war. McCain is just plain right.

The Middle East, and our role there, is at a crossroads. A stable Middle East region needs US presence. The Middle East desires that presence, bluster aside. Iraq's neighbors don't want the country to destabilize or devolve to chaos, particularly with Iran waiting at the sidelines. While the nation is ready for a troop draw-down timeline -- call it withdrawal if you like -- Senator McCain will not completely withdraw, as he has been clear about for some time. The US must establish bases in Iraq, and under John McCain we will. What's more, this is not our only significant foreign policy challenge. We must deal with Russia, and relatedly with the Caucuses region. We must increase our level of cooperation with Turkey. We must strengthen NATO. We must deal with North Korea.

All of these things require the steady hand of experienced command, and the courage, knowledge and judgment to make wise choices. Against his fellow senators and congress members, Senator McCain makes those decisions, and he makes the right ones.

Of course, an election can not, and must not, be "about" only one thing. The economy is obviously largely at play. Despite media and blog falsehoods, this is not a crisis of Republicans' making, and certainly not of John McCain's. Senator McCain was one of the few voices trying to avert this crisis. Now that it is here, we must recognize, however sadly, that the heavy hand of the government is required for a solution. Not only does navigation of these waters require the patience and experience Senator McCain brings to the table, but also the natural reticence of a conservative to use it to expand the government in unlimited ways or indulge emotional, socialist responses. We need a leader who won't sell out the free market economy which has driven human civilization to the peaks of prosperity and generated untold global wealth. Lastly, of course, we need a captain at the helm who has the courage to act in the face of unpopularity and a proven ability to obtain bipartisan cooperation. There is no one but John McCain so well suited to the task.

Of course, I am also influenced by the fundamental values. As mine are Republican and conservative by nature, this obviously leads to me McCain. From protecting gun rights to appointing responsible, impartial judges, he is a man we can trust in this role.

America and the world have tough times ahead. Today more than ever before, the world requires American leadership in the great economic crisis we face. The nations of Earth have been on a hectic and undirected path since the end of the cold war, and we all need an America that can calm that path.

Domestically, we need a president who represents our core American values, and has the wisdom and courage to reach across the partisan divide in pursuit of those values.

For all these reasons, there is only one possible choice for our future. As I said in January I say again now: 2008 is John McCain's year. He's what is right for, and about, America.

"With an average of a 7.4% lead its tough to be a Republican, not a Democrat."

You idiot.

That average includes some huge outliers that are five days old and some surveys with "expanded" likely voters who are actually likely to take the day off and watch reruns of "Starsky and Hutch".

Those millions signed by Obama, who have never shown up before, aren't going out on election day.

If you take out the obvious outlier of the 13% GW poll and the "expanded" likely, which assume obama's newly registered voters will show up just because they said so, Obama's average lead is less than 5%.

As the questions add up, people are beginning to wonder if they really know obama. Wright, Ayers, Rezko and now his past very active involvement in an organization that has repeatedly been convicted of voter fraud and has been accused of it again in several places around the country. Obama's campaign has given this group over 800K even knowing they have been convicted of voter fraud before. What did Obama give them this money for?

To help him "sign up" new voters.

The country doesn't want to repeat the error it made with Nixon and elect the guy without getting to the bottom of this scandal.

If you want to call the +13 an outlier you have to call the +2 an outlier as well as most of polls fall in the 5-10% range still leaving an average of 7.5%.

This is up from the 5.3% average you were claiming a couple of weeks ago was the start of Mccain's comeback. Obama's lead on average continues to increase. Accept the reality of president Obama and you'll be happier for it. All this rage inside you is going to shorten your life.

you are a tiresome little twerp

there are no polls in the last two days showing more than a 6 point lead other than the obvious outlier, the preposterous GW 13% poll, and the "expanded" likely voters which are, actually, unlikely relying on intent rather than demonstrated behavior

the true average is 4.8%

you see, the reason Obama's lead is declining is obvious

And I might add that if you're going to make the argument that only the most recent polls should be considered those put Obama's lead at 7.7%:

Bad anonymous, you can cherry pick polls all you like to select the lowest values you favour while rejecting the highest values that make steam come out of your ears but no statistictian would do that, its not an accepted practice anywhere and in fact its exactly what is universally accepted as bad science.

By any accepted standard of statistics Obama's lead is in the 7.4% to 7.7% range.

Andrea- not anon
Just returned from Chicago, the home of our next president. I will be totally ignoring MN Anon from now on- unless it wishes to take me up on the bus ticket to Wasilla, Meth capital of Alaska.
I read the New Yorker endorsement of Obama and saw that Will and Krauthammer have conceded the race to Obama/Biden and that Christopher Buckley is voting for Obama- his first democratic vote- because per his dad- he decided to separate the right from the kooks. I see that Virginia is attempting to stop some voters by not allowing any campaign clothing to be worn into the polls- luckily as it is winter-the republicans behind this won't be stopping anyone- you can always button your coat and take off your hat.

Actually you're wrong, the gallup poll today showed a 10% lead for Obama as well and the Gallup poll yesterday showed a 7% lead for Obama.

Several polls in the last few days have confirmed a double digit lead for Obama. None have replicated the 2% lead you're clinging so desperately to, the IBD TIPP poll is the outlier. Obama's lead based on the past few days is 8% which confirms the 7.7% lead the polls released today show

I saw on TV what Andrea mentioned in passing: that in Virginia, voters wearing any clothing endorsing a candidate would be turned away from the polls.

They have to be kidding, right?

I myself see more Obama clothing on my students than McCain clothing (in fact, none at all of the latter).

They really have to be kidding, don't they?

Who is on the election board that made this bizarre decision, anyway? They are kidding, aren't they?

Who petitioned them to take this move

I hate to be paranoid, but the right-wing attacks on ACORN, as well as the ongoing efforts to keep working and impoverished people from voting, make me wonder.

And when Anonymous takes a stand, my immediate impulse is to the he is mistaken, just given his history. After quoting the WSJ, he'll move on to quoting the Review (National or Dartmouth) and then the Washington Times.

Can I really not wear a political button to the polls? What Speech Police will stop this? Maybe we can have literacy test next; I know my grandfather voted.

stop pretending you can't hear, Preya

the polls you are citing, "expanded" polls are untested and simply accept that the millions of new voters signed by Obama campaign recipients, ACORN, will actually go vote

there's no history confirming that

in the polls obtained in the traditional, tested manner, USAToday/gallup puts obama up 4 points

LOL, mixed up Anon

McCain will win FL, VA and OH.

My prediction for the final is 274 McCain, 264 Obama

There is a possibility McCain will lose Nevada slightly because of the ACORN voter fraud activity

in that case, the electoral college will be tied at 269 all and Obama will win in the Democratic Congress

that's Obama's only real shot

btw, the big outlier poll, GW Batlleground has recanted the 13 point lead it gave obama yesterday and has dropped him 5 points in one day to an 8 point lead

that's the problem with outliers

they make Preya look stupid

It seems Priya is Anon's particular target now: in this thread, he has called her a twerp and stupid.

Next he'll be calling her a socialist and linking her to terrorists.

I'm been listening to conservative talk radio: it seems largely a vehicle in which people can be publicly impolite about "liberals."

Then again I think about the notion of not wanting to be politically correct, which comes across to me as simply wanting license to be rude.

Maybe I'm overgeneralizing.

Before. Huckabee is one of America's future leaders.

Gee, I feel bad. She's always so polite and considerate in referring to me.

"Next he'll be calling her a socialist and linking her to terrorists."

Since you bring it up, I would say she's probably a socialist. She also is given to violence. She used to roam bars and beat up homosexuals.

"I'm been listening to conservative talk radio: it seems largely a vehicle in which people can be publicly impolite about "liberals.""

Democrats are planning to ban conservative radio if they win.

Most Democrats in Congress favor a resurrection of the Fairness Doctrine. It is the law the requires public radio and TV stations to give free time to the opposition any time the airwaves are used to favor any political position.

If a station played Rush Limbaugh's show for three hours, they would be required to give liberals three hours free.

No hard to see how this would cause stations to cancel conservative talk shows.

LOL, your prediction was for president huckabee, Mccain running mate Huckabee, Mccain running mate Condoleeza rice, Mccain running mate Colin Powell, a republican sweep in the 2006 elections, and for the trans-inclusive anti-discrimination law to be repealed. You're batting 0 for predictions of the future. The reality is going to be roughly 357 EV for Obama and 181 for Mccain:

Huckabee is done, he'll never have another shot at the Republican nomination let alone presidency. Ditto for Palin, she's damaged goods.
